Let's be artists in mathematics

Maths is all around us,so it is possible to work with children on several different issues related to mathematics and connect them with arts in an interdisciplinary way. Our intention is to make an innovative project, supported by a curricular interaction between preschools and primary schools. At the moment there is a large concern across Europe regarding the results obtained by children and especially on the success in mathematics, so we believe that an impulse must given to the teaching and learning of this subject. After a careful analysis of pedagogical methods used by each of the partners we want to understand children's needs and difficulties in mathematics, make some special activity and develop new teaching practices. The aim of the project is to engage all the partners in the development of this innovative project and to implement the use of ICT and of the different European languages, increasing the feeling of an European citizenship. Moreover we want to reinforce the interest for math and arts.

Cele: Mathematics is important for structuring the thought of the child. The children can spontaneously build mathematical ideas from their experiences in daily life. In preschool, routines provide many opportunities for learning mathematics. The aim is not the immediate knowledge, but rather the formation of concepts and skills needed for such learning. It is therefore essential that we use whatever occasion the daily life offers, to enrich the knowledge of the children with whom we work and live together.
Postęp działań: From preschool education is important that children not only learn mathematical contents, but also that they are involved in the process, looking for standards, reasoning about data, solving problems and communicating their results and ideas. It is our intention to develop the project with primary schools in a curricula articulation, in a shared, participative and collaborative way. We should always give children the opportunity to use their knowledge to solve situations, listen to them carefully and think on them. It is important that the child poses questions, discovers, explores and builds his own mathematical knowledge and extends this knowledge and love for math in the future. The work that is done in the field of mathematics with other curriculum areas is the knowledge of the child.
Oczekiwane rezultaty: All together we will learn and have fun by creating new stories in mathematics, new games and new tasks. We will continue to prove that mathematics is integrated with the art and may be interesting, easy and fun. This is a Comenius project which will involve vistis to Italy, Austria and Scotland and will have a public Twin Space.
